By Richard E. Flanagan
The Triple K Ranch is the third novel of the Kincaid trilogy and the
life of the brothers in the emerging territory of Texas in the mid
1800s. Tal, Ken and Billy Kincaid are living in Mystery, Texas and
are in the process of building a working cattle ranch from the proceeds
of the treasure Tal had found on his return to Mystery from Abilene.
Tal is married to the love of his life; Em and they have a son and
daughter. Ken is also married and his wife is expecting their first
child. Billy, in his early twenty’s, is not married. Billy lives
with Tal and Em in the big ranch house. G. W. Titus is the local marshal
and Amos, the Blackman that helped Tal transport the treasure to Abilene,
works for the Kincaid brothers on the ranch.
Amos learns that his wife and child that were taken from him are living
in Shreveport, Louisiana and asks for the Kincaid’s for help
in returning them to Mystery. Billy and men from the Triple K Ranch
leave Mystery to travel to Shreveport to find Amos’ wife and
child. They confront hostile Indians and other natural dangers on
their trip to Shreveport.
Upon the groups return, Billy and Tal prepare for the cattle drive
to the railhead north of Mystery. Ken’s wife has given birth
to their first child. Ken stays at the ranch to care for his new daughter
and the rest of the Kincaid interests while Tal and Billy are on the
cattle drive.
Tal, Billy, Amos and the ranch hands of the Triple K Ranch drive the
cattle north to the railhead. In the process of the cattle drive,
Walking Wolf, the Apache war chief, attempts to steal the heard and
kill his enemies the Kincaid brothers. The group is also attacked
by outlaws attempting to rustle the herd from the Triple K men.
The Kincaid Trilogy concludes with the Kincaid brothers building the
largest and most successful ranch in Texas.
